Derek Porter is a U.S. Special Ops Marine, turned serial entrepreneur and cannabis business expert specializing in security consulting, licensing, investments, marketing, and technology.

 

After two combat deployments and time with the private military, Derek started his own cannabis security company, Security Grade Protective Services, in 2011 which he quickly grew to $2.6 million in annual revenue in just three years before the company was acquired by Helix TCS, Inc. After selling this multi-million dollar venture, he created the TAP surveillance program (Total Accountability Program) which pioneered remote video surveillance in the cannabis space.

A Serial Entrepreneur in Cannabis

Derek has established himself as a successful serial entrepreneur in the space having started and exited two multi-million dollar cannabis companies in five years time. In addition, he sits on the Board of Directors of Sierra Delta and previously on the Regulatory & Compliance Committee for the National Cannabis Industry Association. In the meantime, Porter co-founded Dynamic Warriors, a cannabidiol (CBD) wellness brand built to help like-minded individuals such as patriots and athletes who are searching for alternative homeopathic wellness products.

Now Investor & Chief of Staff

Recently, Derek accepted his next role as the Chief of Staff for the world-class canna-business consulting firm Gateway Proven Strategies (GPS), where he utilizes his breadth of experience to help uplift new startups in the space.

Derek holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Master of Science in Security Management, along with dozens of certifications in security and competitive intelligence.

Timeline

Served in the United States Marine Corps. Served a combat tour in Iraq. Was awarded the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal, w/ Combat Distinguishing Device (V) Successfully conducted over 300 combat patrols, raids, and government escorts in Najaf Province, Iraq. Conducted PSD (Personal Security Detail) missions, protecting high profile targets from the Prime Minister of Iraq to Commanding Generals and Battalion Commanders.

    • Completed a second tour to Combat in Iraq as contractor for a Private Military in 2006

Worked with high-end Executive Protection firms protecting A-list celebrities and high net worth individuals and their families. Conducted Competitive Intelligence research and investigations along with starting up various security companies, developing their brands, and launching marketing strategies.

Founder/ CEO of Security Grade Protective Services (now Helix Cannabis Security). Bought out by publically traded tech conglomerate Helix Technologies (HLIX).

Derek accepts a Board of Directors position for the Non-profit 501(c)3 Canyon Quest for Vets.

 Derek created the TAP surveillance program (Total Accountability Program) which pioneered remote video surveillance (remote guarding) in the cannabis space. Taking the program $1.6 million in revenue in the first 6 months. TAP becomes the most cost-effective security program in the cannabis industry

Derek markets TAP as a 280E tax write off for marijuana operations operating in the U.S.

Derek Starts Veteran Owned and Operated CBD company Dynamic Warriors.

Derek is chosen to be a Regulatory & Compliance Committee Member for the National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA)

Derek serves on the Board of Directors for Helix Technologies

Derek accepts a position as Director of Strategic Services & Competitive Intelligence Director for Helix Technologies. Derek is pivotal in brand polishing and development along with extending Helix’s online footprint.

Derek joins The Arcview Group as an accredited Investor

Derek starts Cannabis Security Experts (CannabisSecurityExperts.com) and molds it to become the most comprehensive full-service security consulting company for the cannabis industry, with multiple CEO’s from the most prominent security companies in cannabis joining the consulting team.

Derek accepts committee Member position for Risk Management & Insurance for the National Cannabis Industry Association.

Derek invests in multiple small businesses in Hemp, such as Knight Hollow Organics (Wisconsin)
